Well, it did until the USDA required the zoo to add ugly shade structures to ALL of the exhibits. It is still pretty impressive but much less compelling than it appears in this and other photos taken before these "improvements."
The riverine landforms, dryland vegetation etc. do make this habitat more "African" feeling than the giant North Carolina pasture does.
