Dallas Zoo 2010 - Main entrance

Main entrance which I think came into use at the same time as Wilds of Africa opened in 1990.

This entrance opened in 1996 or 1997 I think.

Not the most aesthetically pleasing entrance, but if you look closely you will see it is actually located underneath a highway bridge. So what it lacks in looks it makes up for in practicality. A brilliant use of what would otherwise be wasted space.

I find that you're not really aware of the busy highway overhead and on a hot Dallas day it is rather nice under there!

I love the complete lack of subtlety. No missing that.

The bigger the word 'ZOO' is written at the entrance, the better, for me!

Nothing about the entrance is subtle that's for sure. Like the 67 1/2 foot tall giraffe statue.
