zebra chasing giraffes

Several times over a period of fifteen minutes or so, the zebra would just start running which sent the giraffes running off in a panic. Hilarious.

This could end in tears. Bloody-minded equids [wild and domestic] have been known to do horrible things to other animals.

At Kansas City, the zebras had to be seperated from other hoofstock for years due to aggresion. However, they are together now.

SDWAP and SDZ keep them separate now too. In the good ole days of the monorail I remember the zebra always chasing the other animals around in the South Africa exhibit. Never knew giraffes to be scared by them though, haha.

Ivan the former male reticulated giraffe in the SDWAP was missing the tassel of his tail because a Grevy's zebra bit it off.

What do these captive zebras think they are lions or something?!

My mom has photos from the early 80's of the African Savannah in Cleveland with all species of hoofstock mixed.It could not have been long before they fenced the exhibit into three paddocks.Which is a real shame because the exhibit would be so much better with out the fences.
