Giants of the Savanna still looks remarkable, and the entire African half of Dallas Zoo is amongst the best set of animal exhibits at any North American zoo. I wonder when all of the savanna animals will be permanently mixed together (elephants, giraffes, zebra, ostrich, impala, etc) because we are all still waiting for it to happen more than a year later...
P.S. GOTS not being one of the trio of winners of the AZA Best Exhibit Award is a little perplexing, although it did gain a "significant achievement" award.

They seem to be very (and properly) careful introducing each species to the other in stages... and then the different elephant "groups" to each other. When you consider all of the possible permutations of mixing and the prerequisite introductions, it is overwhelming. (and then there's baby giraffes adding more complexity!) And a really bad introduction would be very unfortunate. These folks really are persistent, working on it slow and steady for so long
Its because the AZA Exhibit Award has little to do with the actual exhibit, and more with how the exhibit is presented by the zoo to the AZA in an application.
