The original design for the two desert habitats. The one now called the Arid desert was then known as the Desert Area while the Semi-Arid Desert was known as the Arid Area. Species to be included were Scimitar Horned Oryx, Addax, Addra and Dorcas Gazelle, and Kori Bustard.
A third exhibit was added to the Desert complex for the Kori Bustard and Egyptian and Hooded Vultures. This is area is just to the right of the "Arid Area" (know known as the Semi-Arid Desert) on the map. I don't think the Koris were ever mixed in the other exhibits. The vultures were though.

Other than the changes in desert exhibits that you mention, have the themes of the other African habitat exhibits on the monorail and their species composition changed since 1988?
It seems like these exhibits have stood the test of time well.
These plans were from the original proposed themes. Over the years the species have changed but the overall theme has not in general, although if one were to be absolutely true to geography Grevy's Zebra would not be found in a woodlands habitat.
