complex route to fence blur

This is for any other photo geeks out there. Here is a new technique I have never tried before. As most of you know, you need a long telephoto length (and large aperture) to blur out the fence. Problem is, I could only get a head shot that way. When I zoomed back from 300mm to 100mm to get the whole body, then the fence came into view.

So I did a series of five shots at 300mm, starting at the head and working my way down. Then I input them into the Panorama builder in Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and let it stitch it together and even let it automatically fill in the edges. Isn't technology amazing?

BTW, this was at the special early evening photo op the zoo hosted on Saturday, August 25, 2012. (Not really worth the price they charged, but that is beside the point).

A nice result. I guess it's fine for static subjects and much better than getting too close to the wire of the harpy's aviary.
