One male and two female green-winged teals (Anas carolinensis) were spotted near the stream running through the tortoise enclosures. They probably live freely in the Tropics Hall.

Hi @KevinB. First of all, I thoroughly enjoy your extensive photo series from Olmen (and other zoos). However, the bird in the picture is not a Green-Winged Teal (A. (crecca) carolinensis) but a Eurasian Teal (A. (c.) crecca). The horizontal white band on the wing is characteristic of the Eurasian (sub)species while the American (sub)species has vertical white band below the base of the wing.

@Mr. Zootycoon Thank you very much for the information and for your appreciation of my extensive photo series from Olmen and other zoos. I have yet to complete the one for Olmen as well as even get started on several others (Beekse Bergen, Pairi Daiza).

I cannot change the title unfortunately, but at least your information will be here.
