It will be extremely interesting to see what happens to the landscape of this superb exhibit if Dallas Zoo incorporates an additional 6 elephants into the mix. The zoo has opened up the adjacent paddock and allowed many other species to intermingle with the elephants but whether that continues or not with the extra pachyderms is anyone's guess at the moment.
Dallas Zoo has been brilliant in slowly and carefully creating the mixed species experience, introducing species to each other and adding to the mix step by step. It took about two years before the two large yards were open to all and they achieved full mix. Their track record suggests that the next phase will also be handled professionally and with great deliberation and care
