This actually doesn't look too bad considering that it was built in 1959, but what will happen to the Pachyderm Building once Asian Tropics opens in 2012?

There are only two hippos that live at denver. One is a very old male, Bert, that I haven't seen in a while:( and a young male, Mahalo, the son of the Bert. I believe bert is 62 and was the father of all the baby hippos at Denver.

I haven't herd much about what Denver will do to the existing Pachyderm Building when the elephants and tapirs move to Asian Tropics. I herd from one of the care staff that they will be renovating the exhibits to make one large black rhino exhibit and one large hippo exhibit. Maybe moving the 3 rhinos to the elephant and tapirs yard and expanding the hippo enclosure into the existing rhino pen.

The master plan shows a large African area connected to Predator Ridge. The exhibit takes over half of the Hoof Stock exhibits and all of the Pachyderm Building. Some painting show an underwater viewing for hippos and a couple of rhinos mixed with some other antelope on a hill. I do not know if these plans will be followed threw with but the most important thing is finishing Asian Tropics and getting rid of the nasty cat building.
