Monkey Island - Hooded Capuchin Monkey/Crested Screamer/Pelican Exhibit

Aug. 9th, 2012.
This old exhibit is a simple moated island but it is at the same time a superb habitat for the large troop of capuchins that spend their days scampering amongst the branches. Up close the island is much larger than it first appears, and during my visit there were monkeys constantly running up and down the trunks and onto ropes and small wooden platforms that are judiciously placed amongst the foliage. The zoo could actually benefit from placing more benches around the stone ring so that families can sit and watch the antics of their relatives.
