Wolf Pack Woods

Aug. 9th, 2012.
This exhibit, which is a large sprawling forest, is now empty. The last Arctic Wolf was euthanized on April 8th and the zoo has issued a press release declaring that there are no plans to have Arctic Wolves in the enclosure in the future. Is it a possibility that this part of the zoo (including nearby paddocks for Bactrian Camels and Mongolian Wild Horses) will be incorporated into the future Asian Temperate Forest complex? That essentially represents the space between Northern Shores/Tropical Discovery and Asian Tropical Forest on the map.

Hi snowleopard!

The Master Plan for Denver zoo is in re-vision as we speak. So far, any larger expansion will be placed on hold until the plans are set in stone. Denver does a lot of work with Mongolia! And the original plans did state that this sector of the zoo would be saved for Asian Temperate Forest, but who knows. The new master plan hasn't been made public yet, anything could be a possibility.:)

What I can tell your right now is that Denver zoo is focusing on what needs to be focused on in the zoo world. Modern design and innovative techniques are what will soon fill the zoo and take over the hideously aging buildings. Denver is still working to stay the greenest zoo in the country. New gasification trash bins swarm the zoo, so most trash within the zoo, will be recycled or gasified. Denver is also trying to keep as much animal diversity as possible, but Denver also acknowledges TAG. Education is a very big part of the zoo and the many programs available to spectators and zoo enthusiasts connects two different worlds together. The Denver zoo also has a very enthusiastic, knowledgable, and involved team that will continue to make the zoo a better place for both animals and people.

So basically that is what the zoo is striving for. ;)

And let's not forget a change in Zoo director is coming soon, which inevitably means some change in direction (especially where master plans are concerned).

According to a fellow ZooChatter this large enclosure will eventually be a new Amur Tiger exhibit, which is terrific news as there is a lot of potential in this section of the zoo.

On my visit on 6/8/16, this exhibit had been demolished and the new Amur Tiger Exhibit was being constructed in its place, which is to be called The Edge.
