Arctic Ring of Life - Detroit Zoo

July 2008.
Wow, another example of how great this exhibit is. Without the trees in the background it would really look like the Artic. Do you know how many polar bears the zoo has? and how many they can hold?

I think that there are currently 5 polar bears, but 2 are on loan for the next two years from the Como Zoo in St. Paul, Minnesota. That zoo is renovating its polar bear exhibit by ditching the concrete and going with a substrate flooring.

This exhibit looks really nice, hopefully the Toronto Zoo's tundra trek turns out like it. I love the contrast of the white and blue. How big is the polar bear exhibit there? and what other animals are in this area.

@Quartz92: Arctic Ring of Life is regarded by many as the #1 polar bear exhibit on the planet, and you can find out all the information on the ZooLex website. There are polar bears, seals and arctic foxes in the 4.5 acres.

This is of course only one of the three polar bear enclosures in the brilliant, award-winning Arctic Ring of Life. There is the grassy meadow and deep pool habitat, this crystal-clear enclosure above, then a tunnel walkway towards the pack-ice exhibit. There are also harbour seals and arctic foxes in separate enclosures within this 4.5 acre zone of the Detroit Zoo.
