As far as being one of the worst chimpanzee enclosures in the nation, that would be exactly correct as far as zoos are concerned. However, in about 50% of all U.S. states it is still legal for a member of the public to get a permit and own a chimpanzee at home! A ridiculous nation in so many ways.

Are there any numbers on how many apes are kept privately in the US? I have seen pictures of gibbons in prams from the USA. Thankfully although gibbons can be kept privately in the UK under the DWAL, they can't be kept in prams and taken to the shops!
This young chimp was an orphan that came to the zoo at the age of around 3-4 months after his mom abandoned him at birth in the middle of winter at a zoo in Missouri. The plan for the new primate house is to be where currently the two big wolf exhibits are. After this, they would like to take in rescue chimps.
