Hot Grass barrier

Taronga's new Cassowary exhibit has them on the inside of the cable fence. I was standing about a metre away for ten minutes before I noticed them, and only then because I was checking the fence to see if any of the cables were electrified.

I think the term "hot fan" would be a better description as the five blades radiate out in a fan-shape. If you click on the image above, then choose the "original" option, then zoom in on the image and look at the clump on the extreme left, you can just make out it's blades, and some of those next to it.

Commerically its named as hot grass.

And Disney uses it everywhere...especially in the Kilamanjaro Safari savannas.

Perhaps hot grass is the modern equivalent of bars, fences and walls, as the lack of any notable obstruction is perfect for fantastic viewing opportunities. Disney's Animal Kingdom does indeed use hot grass everywhere, but it works wonderfully well.

Thanks all for the input, Great link okapikpr. I am familiar with this.
I thought it was something else. Actually l never thought they were electrified when l have seen them in the past. As l have not heard them clicking???
