June 29 2013. Around 1995 Pairi Daiza recieved a large shipment ( if I remember right 12 birds ) from New Zealand. These were surplus to the New Zealandian breeding project and because the European breeding programm could use "fresh' blood. the 12 birds were distributed to several other parks. Some of the birds kept at Pairi Daiza started to breed soon after and in 1996 the first chicks were hatched and raised !
