Savanna - Kilamanjaro Safari

Ankole Catte and Impala are seen in this view. Photo taken November 2008
My only pet hate with African mixed exhibits is ankole cattle...Why do zoos do it? You wouldn't see them on safari while in Afirca and I thought of all places DAK would know better.

Well this is a clear example of what i mean about some members in the forum lack of appreciation for well done expensive enclosures, this area along Blackrhino is worth the whole construction tag in MMZ one of your favorite zoos for ungulates, on top of that, the experience of the landscape when it comes to realism at least of what i have personally seen of africa comes pretty close, closer than any other zoo in the planet.

I respect that you have your favorites and i understand why you would rank a particular exihbit above another from your own perspective, but to say that this is not the best mix african exihbit experience outside of africa, is really beyond understanding even for me.

I think the airport in Havana Cuba is much better than Miami's, does it matter?

Good point, I should reword that. Kilimanjaro Safari is the best safari outside of Africa, however it is not my favorite.

You would if you were safariing in Uganda...

It doesn't get any better than this. In 18 minutes you cover a lot of different terrain. And it's really hard to believe that the entire area is only some 200 acres. I've taken the old tram tour at the SDWAP on several occasions, and everything about my experience at DAK was far superior.

I agree, DAK felt like I was in a wild place. The WAP feels like a golf course...

Hopefully I'll be able to go to DAK soon. I'm a zoo fan and a disney fan, so this park is as good as it gets for me.

The park is actually around 500 acres, this attraction alone is over a hundred (you could fit the entire magic kingdom inside it).

Blackrhino, out of interest what is your favourite african exhibit?

It is an absolutely stunning, amazing African exhibit...but it's only 18 minutes long and that is nowhere near enough time to view the 100 or so animals in the numerous different exhibits.

100 animals, i don't think so nearer 1000 i would say, about 20 river hippo for a start!
I went round in 2000, and as you say far too little time to see the animals, the mock poacher chase is typically Disney, a little learning through a lot of adventure.
A walk round section would be nice, but i think now impossible.

P.S The sooner every so called savannah or African plains exhibit rids themselves of ankole or Watussi catttle, that exhibit them, the better for me.
