Flamingos

Im pretty sure those are not andeans, I think that they are greater or lesser flamingos. I cant get the picture big enough to be sure. There are no andeans in North America

All the flamingos are, as far I can recognise them, all lesser flamingos.

Lesser Flamingos for sure. They are the species on exhibit in Discovery Island, they also have greater flamingos on Kilimanjaro Safaris.

@ UrMumz... - you can see an Andean Flamingo here: http://www.zoochat.com/513/andean-flamingo-slimbridge-06-02-10-a-128328/

Andeans have a pale base to the bill and a solid black triangle at the wing tips (when wings are closed). They also have yellowish legs.

Lessers (as here) have an all-dark bill, pink legs and very little visible black when the wings are closed - there's a clearer shot here: http://www.zoochat.com/513/lesser-flamingos-slimbridge-06-02-10-a-128300/

Flamingos are very easy to get mixed up but actually also quite easy to learn to tell apart (although having Slimbridge within reach is a big help! :D ).

Thanks for the clear up.Slim bridge is in the Uk, Maguari

I know - my point was that's where I went to 'get my eye in' on flamingo species. :)

(it's not an immediate option for UrMumz... for obvious geographic reasons!)
