Eld's Deer/Banteng/Blackbuck Paddock

Dec 2008.
Very impressive set of antlers. Our zoo will display these animals when we finish our tiger exhibit. Can't wait to see them.

Looks like a male Banteng to me. :)

I believe that all the Brow-Antlered Deer in the US are Panolia thamin.

That's what I thought but on the Sangai page on Wikipedia (not that Wikipedia can be 100% trusted) there's a picture of a Brow-Antlered Deer at Disney so I wanted to make sure. Thanks.

Bronx Zoo actually kept Manipuri elds deer (Panolia eldii eldii) from the 1920s until the 1950s

I was also reading through the International Zoo Yearbooks (dont remember which volume) and it listed Miami Zoo and Montgomery Zoo as having Manipuri elds deer (Panolia eldii eldii) but that turned out to be an error, the Panolia eldii spp. in Miami and Montgomery were actually Burmese elds deer (Panolia eldii thamin)

On a side note, the Banteng in the background is a Javan banteng (Bos javanicus javanicus), I dont think that there are anymore Burmese banteng (Bos javanicus burmicus) in the United States unless some private collector keeps descendants from San Diego stock

As for Bornean banteng (Bos javanicus lowi) I dont know if any were ever imported into North America and going back to Elds deer (Panolia eldii), does anybody know if there were ever Thai elds deer (Panolia eldii siamensis) in North American zoos ?
