Fort Worth Zoo - Asian Elephants

I believe that Bluebonnet, a female Asian who was born at Fort Worth is the only elephant in the state to make it to adulthood. I'll double check but Im fairly certain that she is the only one.

I guess Texas is not a good state for Elephant breeding!

It's a shame though the weather suits them.

Some of the Houston born elephants did make it into adulthood. Kimbia was 13 yrs old when she died. And Kiba was 11 yrs old when he died.

And the last Asian Elephant import into the US arrived at the Portland Zoo (Chendra) in 1998?

oh yeah Kiba died in the Berlin zoo right? and chendra yeah from Malaysia a pygmy elephant. Thatnks for refreshing memory.

Between El Paso, San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston we could start an entire thread on how poorly elephants have had it in the State of Texas! I was shocked to see the 3 Asian elephants in the photo all crowding around the dripping water tap, as it was appalling that there was zero water on what was a scorching summer day.
