All of that mock-rock and water really condenses the space given to the zoo's gibbons. The Fort Worth Zoo is the only zoo in North America with gorillas, bonobos, chimps and orangutans, and there are a number of other primates in their impressive collection. The problem is that not one of the primate exhibits is truly world class. The enclosures are all adequate and at times quite pretty to look at, but not one is deserving of the status of being an all-around brilliant exhibit. I think that I just summarized the entire zoo, but the new reptile house (MOLA) could well be the best of its kind in North America.
One of the big prolems is that the chimps and bonobos alternate habitats. The day I went only the bonobos were out. The chimps were inside in a concrete holding area.
