Planckendael - African Village (Storks)

  • Media owner Toddy
  • Date added
The exhibit for European white storks (Ciconia ciconia) and secretary birds (Sagittarius serpentarius) on the border of the African Village in the African Area in Planckendael. Aside from these storks Planckendael is home to a huge number of wild white storks, most of them descended from captive storks from the park, and their nests can be seen all over the park.
About half of Planckendael’s storks migrate south during the winter and the park’s most successful conservation project is the re-establishment of wild white stork populations in Belgium.

Planckendael, July 2011.
