The exhibit does have a pool although that is the highlight of what is a badly outdated yard. There are two bull elephants in miniscule paddocks hidden from public viewing and the main yard with at least 5 elephants is terrible. All of the animals were huddled on the far right-hand side in a small shady section during my visit. The good news is that Fort Worth is going to follow the examples of both Dallas and Houston and build a brand-new elephant habitat as their next really big development and it cannot come soon enough. It will be even more interesting to see what happens in Caldwell, Cameron Park and San Antonio in terms of the elephants at those Texas zoos.
I agree the facility is outdated and small, not as small as some of the few remaining older elephant exhibits out there but small for the herd size and surprising the facility is able to accommodate 3 bulls, 3 cows, and 2 youngsters. I hope the new space is complete before the zoo attempts to breed any of the cows again which I'm assuming is either currently happening or in the works.
