To be honest, I was rather disappointed with the tour. Our guide was extremely unknowledgeable... Tried to tell Ishtar the Arabian oryx was extinct in the wild (reintroduced in 1980), among other things. I figured that through a fence from a distance I could get a halfway decent look at an APC... But notfrom 50 feet and five layers of mesh . At least I saw the Mhorr gazelle. I did love that large cheetah enclosure, and I got some great named wolf photos.

They are not exhibited any longer. According to the tour guide, they have stopped their prairie chicken program altogether (which baffles me). Caldwell and Abilene both exhibit them, though I don't think I'll go to Abilene (very small, and the chickens are off exhibit now anyways) and Caldwell has failed to respond to my emails. I am meeting with the bird curator of the San Antonio Zoo next weekend- perhaps he could allow me to see them. I really wish to get more than a fleeting glance before I leave Texas.
