I could be wrong, but maybe this specimen is not a full blood Syrian brown bear. Also @jusko88 besides Detroit Zoo they also had Syrian brown bears at the Baton Rouge Zoo and they might still have them at Space Farms Zoo and Museum

Those cubs are not Syrian brown bears, despite what the sanctuary would claim. If they came from Chicago then I would assume them to be Alaskan brown bears. Someone on here with better knowledge of the Chicago zoos would know.
googling shows numerous small-time zoos in the USA claiming to have Syrian brown bears, usually cubs, often "orphaned". I wonder if Syrian brown bears are the new Barbary lions?
