The indoor exhibit for bonobos (Pan paniscus) inside the Bonobo House in the African Area in Planckendael. Not very aesthetically pleasing but tall and well furnished with climbing frames and enrichment objects.

Planckendael, July 2011.

Actually, to me this is aesthetically pleasing. There is not much I hate more then seeing beautiful, green and lush exhibits, that doesn't accommodate the animals needs at all. The Bronx Zoo's former Proboscis exhibit is a good example of that.

This indoor accommodation is first and foremost for the animals and their needs, which I think is where you should start. Once that has been taken care of, fake rock and plants may enter!

I would like to see a biofloor and more natural light in this exhibit, but it's still better then so many primate exhibits.

I agree with you completely. Nothing worse than seeing the animals' needs completely ignored because designers and zoo management got carried away with fancy immersion exhibitry.

However, that does not change that this exhibit really isn't pretty and looks a bit run down. Like I said: well functioning but could use a makeover.
