September 2010

Mexican Red Brocket Deer is yet another rarity of which Brownsville is one of few public holders in the United States.

The only public holder in the U.S. it should be said. There are various breeding groups in Mexican Zoos. I posted pictures of brocket deer at Aragon Zoo and Leon Zoo in the Mexico gallery. They also breed well at the Belize Zoo and at the Trinidad Tobago Zoo acording to reviews here. Devilfish also placed photos of brocket deer in the peruvian zoos, but they are likely to be another subspecies. Just a very soft reminder that latin American zoos also exist.

Thank you; it's the middle of the night and I was trying to get this job over with. I'll correct this and state that I know of and respect the Central American zoos.

There are other US zoos that have them. I know there are several in Louisiana that have them.

It seems clear now that the information I received just earlier this year was clearly wrong. Thank you and I will change the text now.

Phoenix's brockets just went on display in the last month, and before that, these would have been the only brockets on display in the AZA I believe.
