The exhibit for Asiatic lions (Panthera leo persica) in the Gir Forest Railway Trail in the Asia Area in Planckendael. A very nice exhibit but it somehow seems the designers got lazy with this located in an otherwise excellent theme. The Asiatic lion is one of Planckendaels flagship species to which the park dedicates special conservation concern.
The Asia theme in Planckendael is the newest theme currently being developed. The first major part (Gir Forest and Tropical House) was opened in 2006 while the next major part (elephants) will open in 2012.
