Does anyone know what is now in this famous enclosure? One thing that is quite extraordinary is that Gladys Porter Zoo really has barely changed since its construction boom and debut in the 1970's. I visited in 2010 and the zoo map is nearly the same as the map that I have from 1995. I also own a history book of the zoo and it seems that possibly up to 90% of the enclosures are pretty much the way that they were built more than 35 years ago. It is a worthwhile little zoo but somewhat frozen in time, even with the newly refurbished Aquatics center, and it is tough for the establishment to get any more than about 375,000 annual visitors.
