Zoo Northwest Florida closed in late 2009 and re-opened in 2010 as Gulf Breeze Zoo, and has anyone visited in the past couple of years? Apparently there is a large hoofstock enclosure that can be easily seen via a miniature train, lush chimpanzee and gorilla islands, and yet the zoo's website does not seem to have a map posted anywhere. Any kind of updated information would be much appreciated.
The zoo is still recovering from the financial difficulties that resulted in its closure. Progress on new exhibits and renovations is slow, but steady. They update their facebook page quite regularly; so you can keep up with their progress there. There has been a lot of "musical chairs" lately in regards to exhibits and occupants, I believe they are starting to downsize and specialize more on providing a better visitor experience and more quality care for their animals. If memory serves me correctly, most of the large cats are no longer there. I believe lions (and maybe a jauguar?) are the only two cat species left. Their old enclosures now hold animals more suited to living in a slightly smaller space. (Old jaguar cage now houses S.A. porcupine; Old lion cage now exhibits wetland birds.)
Overall, the zoo is improving. Despite their struggling financial situation, they are making the best of it.
