Asian Elephant Enclosure

A tour around the Asian Elephant enclosure, opened in 2012. It is for the first time in the History of Planckendael they has elephants. The current 5 elephants came from the Antwerp Zoo, the other member of the RZSA (Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp). The exhibit is the biggest and most expensive in the history of Planckendael and their real flagship project.

Did you go to see this new exhibit at a preview or is it already open to the general public? your photos look really quiet, especially considering you must be coming into the peak tourist season in Europe.

I saw it on the opening for the general public on June 29. But as a member of the RZSA (Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp) I have the privilege to visit the zoos of the organisation one hour (9.00 a.m.) before the zoos are open to the day visitors (10.00 a.m.). So, I was there already with only a few members of the RZSA. Later that day it was busier.
It was not already the peak tourist season in Europe, that's July-August. Most of the Belgian people must go that day get their schoolresults or where packing to go on holiday. ;-) .
