Skunk Exhibit

This is actually a larger than normal enclosure for skunks, as they are usually jammed into tiny cages in many zoos.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this had to be an enclosure for another animal species at one time, am I correct ???

The opposite side held prairie dogs. This area here has had a rotating cast of small mammals from skunks to marmots to cottontails.

I kinda think this exhibit is to big for skunks. I think they should but a bigger and more endangered animal here...skunks are everywhere.

Well good news. It will soon be home to giraffes.

too small. wolverines and fishers will be out of that exhibit with the quickness.

To clarify, this whole area has been demolished to make way for the "African Savanna" featuring giraffes, zebras, gazelles, ostrich and lions.

The quality of the new exhibits and pace at which this zoo is renovating are very impressive. When the savanna exhibit is built it looks like they will have renovated 3/4 of the zoo in less than a decade. What will they have left to renovate? Primate exhibits? New children's zoo?

When this is complete, Hogle will be a very solid zoo exhibit wise. The areas left to renovate would be the Great Ape House, which itself isn't terrible but will replaced by an exhibit called "Gorilla Forest", the Primate House (with the motorcycle cages) which will be replaced by a new penguin exhibit, and the Small Animal Building which will be repurposed as an education center all per the current master plan. All of that is subject to change because none of those projects are part of the bond measure that made the recent developments possible.
