Interior of Reptile House

Mostly lizards I presume? I remember reading somewhere several years ago that there were only (I think) two snake species at the zoo due to the strict regulations on the island. And, of course, none anywhere else in Hawaii. Makes sense if so, to prevent the disaster that befell Guam with the brown snake invasion.

I like the idea of having barriers to keep people a little way off from the windows. Reptile house crowding is one of my least favourite things. I hate it when there are so many people that you have to move through a building as one big group and only get a quick look into an exhibit before the people behind you are trying to move on.

It plays a bit fast and loose with the definition of the term "reptile" and curiously also has a quite long list for "other species not at the zoo"

The snake species listed as being at the zoo are the flowerpot snake (they call it the Hawaiian snake) and the Burmese python.

They also have a Ball Python, and the Burmese is an albino (actually amelanistic). The rest of the exhibits house lizards, tortoises and frogs.

Thanks for posting the link. Oddly, quite a few animals listed under "other species not at the zoo" are also mentioned above under "Animal Species At The Zoo".

The Species Not At the Zoo is pretty accurate (with a few errors). The Species At The Zoo appears to list both species present and those not present.

i suspect Species Not At the Zoo are those which they displayed in the past, but have phased out.
