Asian Elephant Exhibit

@Ituri: what is your opinion of the fairly new elephant exhibit? Some ZooChatters have been critical about it but would you say that it is a progressive habitat or simply an adequate one?
 
It didn't really feel like anything too spectacular. Certainly adequate, but visually uninspiring and basic.
 
That was my feeling too. Adeqaute size, but spartan. And seemed rather hot, not a lot of shade.
 
Now that Honolulu Zoo has once again lost its accreditation, the AZA has apparently criticized this exhibit more than any other. The "limited shade, brackish pools and untested chlorine levels in the pools" is a concern. There is also a "lack of animal enrichment" and considering that not too long ago the zoo spent $12 million on the exhibit it seems as if the enclosure is already badly outdated.
