Wow, it is a good exhibit. I hope the LA zoo's elephant exhibit becomes one of the best in North America.
 
There is some hotwire in the Indianapolis elephant exhibit, but it was still shocking to actually see grass there. Most elephant paddocks are dry and dusty.
 
Was the hotwire on the small trees? Most zoos put the hotwire on the trees so the elephants won't destroy them.
 
You're right. If you look closely at the photo you'll be able to barely make out the images of wired poles around the two trees.
 
I believe it is 2 acres in size, and there are 7 elephants (2.5) with 3 of them being ten years old or younger. This will possibly be regarded as a mid-sized exhibit in the United States in the future, but at the moment it is arguably one of the best in North America.
 
At $10K+ each, not even Disney will "sacrifice" large living trees.....

The LA Zoo is going to give, or is giving, one live tree a month to Billy for one full year. I don't know if they've started already or if they are doing it once Pachyderm Forest opens.
