Indianapolis Zoo - Dolphin Dome

July 2008. That's me inside the dolphin tank, the only one of its kind in North America.
I think dolphins add difference though as sharks are in pretty much every tunnel exhibit

I've never seen dolphins underwater.

Sharks can also be mixed with other species so that makes the axhibit on a whole cooler. I don't think much could be put in with dolphins and last even the day.

This is an enormously popular exhibit at the Indianapolis Zoo, and the dolphin show is also quite impressive. A combination of education and excitement.:)

i found a tiny picture of this dome floating on the internet when i was looking for shedd aquarium pictures before discovering zoo chat. I had thought this was someplace in japan. I am actully kinda glad it's here instead. It's a pretty interesting feature.

Some Information:
There are actually four pools. Two (barely visible) pools behind the main show tank. These are used to house some of the dolphins while they aren't in the main pool (the dolphins are rotated throughout so that they all get a chance in the main tank and to do shows) and are also used for "behind-the-scenes" activities with zoo guests. The fourth pool is the medical pool but it is usually open so as to allow the dolphins more space.
