Desert Flora

Outside the desert building!
Does anyone know how they protect these plants during the winter? Do they replant them every spring?

It appears that everything here is hardy in Indianapolis (Yucca, Sedum, Opuntia, Echinacea, Asclepias, etc.). It is more a collection of prairie plants than desert flora. They have used the stone to collect and retain solar heat and most importantly to accelerate snow melt so the plants don't rot.
