If cougars actually did return to the East, would it be good for the cougars themselves? They might be fine in more southern states, but the Northeast might not be the best place for them. The Northeastern states like Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts might be overpopulated with White-Tailed Deer, rabbits, raccoons, turkeys, and more prey, but there is just too much people and not enough space. With all the people here and not as much natural land, a lot of cougars would probably meet the same fate as the infamous Connecticut Cougar that traveled all the way from South Dakota: a car accident.
And how would the public react? Wildlife lovers would be happy, but many people will think about the cougars, then their children, and put two and two together; cougars don't normally attack people, but that doesn't mean they won't snack on a lone small child if they're hungry enough. I would love to see cougars in the East again, but it might not be the best thing for the cougars.

There are common Cougar sightings in my town and they're usually in the woods directly in between a training school (a place where mentally challenged people whose family's have abandoned them go to live) and a large farm. There have been no attacks or problems that I've heard of.
