Speke's Gazelle at Jacksonville, 10/10/13

OK, it's wonky, mesh- and foliage-obscured, and appallingly contrasty - but it's a photo of a Speke's Gazelle I took, so I don't care! (the wonkiness is due to having to hang over the edge of the boardwalk for a gap in the trees!)

According to the helpful lady running the giraffe feeding, these have been taken out of the giraffe paddock as the male gazelle had been attacking the giraffes!

I take it this is the first Speke's gazelle you've ever seen then? ;) :p

See, I wanted to upload my water shrew picture from Slimbridge but didn't. This photo may have inspired me to do just that...* :p

*I probably won't though, it's virtually impossible to see unless I give hints! :D

Yes, it was - and as it was a new species I wasn't expecting, doubly exciting!

Also, it gets bonus points for being a new antelope species, a group I've long had a soft spot for. This was a good trip antelope-wise, four new species and one upgraded from questionable ID to solid, a number of species I hadn't seen in years, a good number all-round (thanks to Miami in particular) and some very good views. And two groups of Sable Antelope, my all-time favourite animal. :)

So what were the four new species? I'm going to guess royal antelope, gerenuk, Speke's gazelle and a duiker species. Questionable ID would possibly be another duiker species?
Am I close? :)

Yep, yep, yep, yep, nope. :D

Four out of Five... Not bad if I do say so myself! :D What was the questionable one then? And which duiker species was a new one? I'm thinking bay? :p :D

Bay is correct.

The hitherto questionable one was Grant's Gazelle, which I may have seen at San Diego Wild Animal Park but can't be sure. Miami provided some definite ones - and a rather better view than the Speke's!

Woo hoo, I've just realised I spend far too much time reading threads on ZooChat! :p

Well I know you had some technical problems at SDWAP with the monorail, I'm going to assume that had something to do with the questionable ID. As in you may have seen them or you may not have got that far on the tour.
