African Lion Exhibit

This lion exhibit was built fairly recently (2008) and from photos it appears to be lush and naturalistic. It is not the type of enclosure where I would expect to see lions, but it is still impressive nonetheless.

Yes! It's a lot bigger in person. Actually when I was at the zoo yesterday I saw the lions climbing the tree. It was amazing!
 
While it is spacious, much thought was put into making the front area and other focal points most attractive to lions.... as in any decently designed exhibit ;)
 
It is hard to tell from the distance but in the concrete work on the tree you can clearly see the shapes of the bark and the fibers and rings in the actual tree itself. The reason they also tend to be so fond of it is because we have heating and cooling lines running through the tree.
