Weasels are almost unheard of in American zoos and aquariums, but having non-aquatic animals pop up in aquariums has become commonplace. Examples include hedgehogs and Komodo dragons at Virginia, rattlesnakes at Denver, tigers at Denver and Houston; and meerkats at Maritime.
It was originally designed to display a small Patagonian cat species! Don't know if it ever did (hope not), but an interesting example of a good exhibit thematic concept but a failure to consider good animal welfare.
Based on @Moebelle's video, it appears this exhibit was converted into a penguin burrow, though I could be wrong on that front. Honestly a smart utilization of the space!
@StoppableSan Odd that I happened to just be reading this it’s actually now a “fake” burrow with a fake penguin in it. I think it’s meant to show how they behave in the wild.
