lion exhibit
The only negative I can think of about this vs Lion Camp is there is no unobstructed view in KC, its either the fence you see in this pic or glass.

One of the major factors in my decision to rank the Miami Metrozoo high on my list of great North American zoos is that almost every animal there is seen in spacious exhibits from across a moat. Zero bars, zero glass, zero wire in the vast majority of the enclosures, and that means perfectly unobstructed views of exotic animals.

I don't believe that the wire fencing was a permanent fixture at the lion exhibit. I believe it was added after the San Francisco Zoo incident, but I haven't been to the zoo in almost three years.

After looking at the picture again, I assume that there was some sort of barrier before, but I don't really remember. I guess always thought that the outdoor viewing was always open-air.

That is nice, but I prefer getting close by way of a glass viewpoint as well, which Miami actually does have for the lions, on a smaller scale though.

I think this light weight mesh, is quietly moveing into more and morre zoos and exhibits.

@mweb08: I too love glass sections in enclosures, although taking photos through glass can sometimes be tricky. The best situation is to have unobstructed views of an exhibit, with close-up viewing opportunities combined with glass windows. Anything but outdated bars and steel posts.
