Orangs to get new home

The preliminary plans for the new outdoor orang exhibit are in the works. From what I've heard the exhibit is going to be HUGE. Stretching from the back of Polar Bear Passage all the way to the current holding building. The new exhibit is going to be designed to have both groups of Bornean orangs out at the same time. The exhibit is also being designed to have the orangs at canopy height for viewing, by building the exhibit into a hillside we'll be able to view them at eye level.

I went there back in June, and I thought this was an abomination to orangutans. I wish they would destroy that ugly exhibit and build an open exhibit with trees and ropes to swing on.

It's actually three separate display areas that allow rotation between themed exhibits. The one one the left is designed with swing poles and play in mind. The one on the right is for climbing up to 60 feet up in the "trees" and vines. The third is potentially a mixed species environment with gibbons or siamang.
