I'm not normally one to accuse exhibits that I've never seen in person but I'll have to make an exception because this looks insanely small and empty. Is this bigger then the picture makes out and will it be demolished anytime soon?

The orangutan s do have acess to an indoor building, but it isn't very large either. The zoo, i beleive, has plans to redo the entire Tiger Trail are, which include the orangutan exhibit, but not anytime soon.

This is a contender for the worst orangutan exhibit in North America because it is small, poorly designed for the animals, badly outdated and ugly as hell. Other contenders are indoor enclosures at zoos (with zero outside access) such as Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne, Cleveland and Brookfield. Phoenix Zoo also has a brutal orang enclosure but that one is being radically altered this year.

That's quite an astonishing contrast to their chimp exhibit. Poor orangs.

@UrMumzAGoat: I beleive tha Tiger Trail wa built in the 1970's as the Great Cat Walk to give their big cats more room and outdoor cages, but it has changed many time to houe different exhibits, but in 2006, KC got 2 sumatran tigers and it was then called Tiger Trail. The orangutan cage was built as a temporary home in 2004 to get the orangutans out of the outdated great ape house, but they were never moved out of it.
