The Valley-Old Bear Grottos

It's really disappointing that the zoo has no plans in the near future for the Valley. It's such a huge space and has a lot of potential, but something like 60 acres drains into it and building a modern-day polar bear exhibit was cost-prohibitive so it was moved. Maybe someday there can be something there but according to the master plan it won't be before 2020:(

The zoo has so much unused space, I don't think there is an urgent need at all for using the valley. I think it would cost much more to build anything down there.

That's true, it's just that the Valley is located in some pretty valuable zoo real estate. If it wouldn't be too expensive I could easily see the zoo adding a new exhibit to represent either of the Americas. S. America could be linked to the Tropics building and a few North American species are kind of in the area (polar bear, river otter, California sea lion, and trumpeter swans). I know it's a pipe dream, but either of those would really fill a gap in the zoo's current collection.

The Valley is closed for improvements.

Why don't they tear it down and build something like a South America section or something like that?
