signage - unusual cohabitants

May 3, 2012
Is this place similar to Out of Africa in that it is common for them to keep different carnivore species in the same enclosure?

It is not similar because it is strictly a rescue facility. And no, they do not mix any carnivore species other than these two (plus a coati and a skunk together, although I am not sure if those are classified as carnivores). The reason they do these is because they only have one other lion, an older male (this is a young male) and those two cannot be together. Since lions are a social cat and coyotes like most canids are also social, they tried it when the lion was just a cub. Just to give each other company. According to a video, they will separate them if the lion decides he doesn't like it, but the owner thinks they will choose to stay together.
