This is probably one of the most underrated monkey their is IMHO. When the LA zoo had them, I used to sit by their exhibit and just watch them for hours. But like many zoos, they were traded for a more popular species, the Mandrill.
I just saw a pair of drills today at the Columbus Zoo, and the male there is absolutely enormous!!! I agree with you in your assessment, as they are rare and yet so beautiful. The dark face really sets them apart from the equally stunning mandrill.
