Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroo Mother and Young

21/06/2016
Wait-a-while Night Tour from Cairns and to the Atherton Tablelands
I think I may have slightly overdone the wild tree kangaroo pictures... but I was so excited about this sighting! :D

This was taken at night?

This was taken at night?

No it wasn't. It was taken about half an hour before sunset.
I think calling it a night tour is a bit misleading, it actually calls itself a day/night rainforest tour and includes some wildlife stuff in the late afternoon/evening. The tour actually leaves Cairns at 1:30 and we looked at some Agile Wallabies in the Cairns suburbs before going up into the Atherton Tablelands to get there in the evening.

these are lovely kangaroos. I only have seen them at night so my views were nowhere near as good as what you got!

Yeah, this really was one of the highlights of the whole trip.
I should also note that as well as being in the day, they were also in a really exposed position on the edge of a road so I could see them without branches in the way and I could also go to the other side of the road so I was looking them at a shallower angle rather than straight up as I would have to if it was in dense rainforest. Also not being in the dense rainforest meant it wasn't so dark from the shade of the trees.
