Does anybody know if Little Rock Zoo has plans to modernize their elephant exhibit? Are they planning to end their elephant program when their elderly current elephants pass?
They brought in the two female elephants to make the AZA's new minimum of three last year, as companions for their single elephant who later died. I think this zoo plans on keeping the species. And the enclosure has housed three. Whether they will be expanding/constructing a new facility is not known to me.

One issue is that there might only be capacity for 3 elephants, which is a similar situation to Virginia. Both zoos can only possibly hold 3-4 elephants at the absolute maximum due to stalls in their barns and yet those zoos have outdoor yards that must not be much larger than the future minimum standards. Little Rock would do well to get out of the elephant business in my opinion.
