Little Rock Zoo has had 3 elderly Asian elephants die in the past couple of years, and the animals were all around 60 years of age. Now the facility has a single female left alive (53 years old) and she has about half an acre of space between the two yards. Is there any truth to the rumors that the zoo is planning an expansion to the exhibit? Will the zoo still serve as a sort of retirement home for the species or is there any news in terms of incorporating a younger group into the enclosure? Is it more realistic to imagine that the zoo will eventually phase out elephants?
