Pachyderm Forest construction

February 2009-This will be the China section viewing area. There will be a sarus crane/muntjac mixed exhibit right in front of the elephant exhibit. That building is the Sarus Crane/Muntjac sleeping quarters.

Any word on any of the other deer that LA was looking to acquire?

There is something I've been wondering about this exhibit. Are the various viewing areas (Elephants of China, Elephants of Indonesia, etc...) lined up with other exhibits so that they sort of tell the geographic story? What I mean is, is the Indonesia viewing area near Red Ape Forest and is the China viewing area near the golden monkey exhibit and so forth?

Well, only the Elephants of China and Indonesia will be near exhibits that have animals from the region.

The "Elephants of China" viewing area is near the Golden Monkey exhibit, the new Reeve's Muntjac and Sarus Crane exhibit, and right across from the Snow Leopards.

The "Elephants of Indonesia" will be near the Siamangs and gibbons, and a new aviary for hornbills (not sure of species) is supposed to be built by the viewing area. The "Elephants of Indonesia" is right next to the former Sumatran Rhino exhibit (now takin exhibit), so I think the zoo planned in having Andalas by the openingn of the exhibit.

The "Elephants of Thailand" is righ next to the orangs. There is also two more viewing areas by the orang exhibit. The "Elephants of India" closest exhibit is the chimp, but not that close. The "Elephants of Cambodia" is going to be across from the aviary.
